It’s getting awkward in here.
Happy National Awkward Day!
As a native New Yorker, I’ve grown accustomed to saying hello to people I see on the street or smile to a stranger in passing. It’s a small way of showing respect and courtesy to others, and I’ve been doing it since I was a child. All New Yorkers aren’t mean..lol.
Recently, I had an embarrassing experience when I made the mistake of calling out “hello” to a person who I thought was a star from one of my favorite movies, but in reality he wasn’t the guy.
I was walking down the street and spotted a complete look alike to Leo DiCaprio. I rushed to say “hello”, like a crazy fan girl, but instead of responding in kind, this person just stared at me. It was so awkward.
I realized immediately that it was not in fact Leo and I had made a complete ass of myself. I quickly apologized for my mistake and explained that I thought he was Jack from Titanic. The stranger was understanding and laughed saying, “That’s ok. I get that a lot.” But I was freaking red as a tomato when I walked away. So yeah, not everyone is who you think they are when it comes to the Big Apple.
